Marlborough Primary School, London
The Marlborough School redevelopment formed part of a wider regeneration plan for an area of Chelsea with the original proposals commissioned under John Lewis. Situated in the busy borough of Kensington & Chelsea the new school provides a vibrant learning environment for ages 3-11.
With outside space being at a premium the scheme was based around a strong idea of cascading terraces over a five storey building which separate the year groups and provide easy south facing access to the external space at all levels.
From the ground floor to the fourth floor external recreational, play and sports surfaces using the SSP range of wet pour rubber and artificial grasses were installed so that students had access to a wide range of external leisure and educational outdoor space so often restricted for schools located in such a confined urban space.
Access was a challenge for our company with importing our materials into the compact construction site and then moving them to the relevant floor levels. Having carried out works to a number of roof top school developments in major UK cities it was a challenge our Project Manager was prepared for.
On completion our company has offered a contract to Marlborough School to help them maintain the surfaces installed through our dedicated sports and play surface maintenance division. Well maintained surfaces will maximise their longevity and help keep them safe and clean throughout the year.
