Durston House Prep School, Ealing London playground had become a dull and uninspiring space. Being a leading preperatory school and with many of the boys eventually moving onto prestigious day school, maintaining facilities are an important attraction for parents and pupils.
The playground had previously been painted with colourful graphics and was enjoyable but had faded over the years. The surface was also hard and rough whenever a pupil fell over. Following consultation with SSP Specialised Sports Products Ltd a wet pour safety surfaces was chosen by the school with lots of colourful educational graphics.
The coloured rubber surface helps to mark out different play areas. The roadway design helps to keep trikes and other ride on toys into one area. An alphabet snake and number bars allow literacy and numeracy concepts to be explored outdoors. A simple compass can be used to begin co-ordinates etc. A hopscotch is a must for most play areas.
The wet pour rubber is a soft , spongy surface which provides a softer landing than a traditional tarmac surface. Laid as two layers with colourful inlays, is a hard wearing playground safety surface.
