Following the installation of a multi games area after a £30,000 grant from Sport England’s Primary Spaces programme, Holy Trinity & St John’s Primary School Church of England Primary School, Margate decided to upgrade another play area.
The playground surfacing was hard concrete paving tiles. and want inspiring much movement. Falling over in this area inevitable lead to skins scraps and bruising. The school was lucky to receive addition funding from it very active PTFA. This allowed the installation of a climbing frame with slide , artificial grass mini tennis courts and play area, umbrella canopy and wet pour rubber safety playground surfacing with exciting playground marking.
An state of the art 3g artificial sports pitch was SSP installed which included lines for tennis. Artificial grass sports mini pitches are ideal as school playground surfacing and can be enjoyed by the whole community. Artificial grass soften the sports area making it more appealing to play in. The sports pitches sizes can be modified for the available space and the age of the children playing on it. Mini football, hockey, tennis and basketball can occupy the same space, while still allowing running games to be played in the area. 3g sports pitches can be an over specification for primary sports and a 2g sand filled carpet is sufficient for most primary schools, while still allowing great game play it is a more economical solution.
The school chose an organic shaped climbing frame and a slide to be installed in the centre of the outdoor area. The clamber stack range of climbing frames provide a challenging climbing environment for all ages. The clamber stack midi range is suitable for early years and can include a play deck and slide. The clamber stack midi chosen by Holy Trinity Primary features a climbing wall, ‘grocery Shop’ and ‘number maze’ play panels and hpde plastic slide.
The organic climbing frame was surrounded by a black epdm wet pour safety surface. In outdoor area’s wet pour rubber can proved the required critical fall height around playground equipment. It is a two layer rubber surface which is mixed and poured in place on site consisting of rubber crumb with a resin to bind it.
To provide softness and interest a exercise trail was inserted into the surface with coloured wet pour rubber. Markings can be put into the wet pour similar to thermoplastic playgrounds markings. The whole range of thermoplastic playground graphics can be inserted into the wet pour rubber.
To provide shade a giant umbrella shade was installed . Giant umbrella shades can be square or round and come in a wide range of colours. The have the advantage over standard canopies of only having one pole and can be conveniently stored in the winter
