Playground surface design involves and understanding of available materials and how they are installed. Playgrounds are more often placed on flat rooftops which require additional logistic and planning difficulties.
Popular playground flooring for children’s play & sports is artificial grass and wet pour rubber. Both are practical and hard wearing solutions for playground flooring.
Artificial grass is essentially on outdoor carpet, polyethylene or polypropylene fibres are tufted through backing material. This is then
coated with a latex backing, providing stability to the carpet. By varying the yarn colour, shape and pile height different type of artificial grass is produced. As with residential carpets , it is usually produced in rolls 4m wide and typically 25m long.
Artificial grass on its own offers no realistic critical fall height. It can be laid over impact absorbing foam matting or rubber base to comply with EN1177 around playground equipment.
Wet pour rubber is a resin bonded granular surface. available in a wide range of colours and educational, play & sports graphics can be easily installed into it.
